Back in February of last year I shot a scene in the upcoming Amazon Prime film called "The Map of Tiny Perfect Things." It stars Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen, and was directed by Ian Samuels. It was filmed in Fairhope, Alabama. My scene is with Kyle and I play an animal shelter employee. I only say a couple of lines, and to be honest, it seems so long ago that I forgot what my lines were! But I remember that the director Ian was nice and laidback. The vibe on the set was so relaxed and everyone was so friendly. Now I'm relatively new at this whole movie set thing, and I remember we were standing around outside the "animal shelter" waiting for another scene to finish shooting inside. It was a beautiful sunny morning, a little chilly, but the sun was out and the sky was blue. I didn't know anyone there but I had just had my makeup done and one of the makeup artists named Frank (Francisco) Perez was standing close by. He was really sweet. Earlier when we were in the makeup trailer he offered me coffee while the other MUA Kimberly was working on me. He was giving me some makeup tips and also dropping names on the films he has worked on. It was funny because we knew he was just being silly . . . but at the same time seriously dropping names, like Marvel and True Detective. So when we were waiting outside the animal shelter, a couple of guys set up a small tent and put out two chairs underneath it. When they were finished, Frank said to go ahead and have a seat. I thought he was kidding with me, so I said, "Yeah, right." And he said that they set out those chairs for me. I looked around to see if this was a joke, but he told me again that it was ok. See that's how green I was . . . I had no idea, but I guess that makes sense. Since I'm not one of the lead actors, my name wasn't on the back of the chair, but it was still one of those cool wooden folding chairs with the canvas seat and canvas back. So I walked slowly over while looking around and finally sat in one of the chairs. No one told me get out or looked at me in a weird way, so I figured Frank was right. I looked over and he just smiled at me as he stood waiting around with the rest of the crew. He was so sweet. I'll always remember him for that. I hope we'll get a chance to work together again :)
